My 30th Birthday in photos

part one - the pub

Warning - these photos and their captions are of the ilk whereby unless you know at least three people who were there or were actually there yourself, you'll find them nauseous. You may want to avoid this page altogether.

It took place in the Phoenix Bar on Charing Cross Road on September 19th 2002. I arrived at 5.30 to find Vicky already there and she bought me a pint. Soon more people arrived who bought me a pint. After a few pints I remembered I'd bought my camera.

Brett had been out the previous night, as had I, but he had been drinking since lunchtime and was, for the first time ever in my experience, too hungover to make sense. He and Sarah left before 9.00pm!

That's Vicky and Dave in the foreground with Nicky, Rosie and Tim behind. I suspect I was being somewhat drunk judging by the looks Vicky and Dave are giving me.

There's Dave again and James. Dave I've known for thirteen years now. James about five. Dave has no hair, James has lots.

There's Heather, Alister and Greg. Look! Greg's sucking his thumb! Heather knows what that means...

Dave gesticulates. I wonder if I was interrupting something. Abbey certainly looks to be in mid flow.

Oh! Stuart's fallen off his chair! Appears the waitress, in an urge to get the glasses back to the bar, just pushed him over! The first of many fun photos of our Stuart, as expected.

Here's Toby and Mark. Toby doesn't want to be identified in a photograph so his face is all wobbly. But that said, he was pretty wobbly when he turned up.

Here's Stuart and Lucy and their friend who's birthday it also was, though I forget his name. Look at Stuart's floppy hair! He really doesn't take a good photo, does he.

Anna's scared of something. Whatever it is, its amusing Mark.

Stuart's getting all het up about something. He just makes it too easy. Would you like Stuart as the wallpaper on your computer? You would? Well, here you are then.

By this stage there were just the three of us left and I was concerned I hadn't taken enough photos.

Oh, happy joy! Mark discovers a £10 note in his pocket and rushes off to buy the last round of the evening!

On leaving the bar at 2.00am I looked like this...

...while emerging from my bed at 9.00am I looked like this. Off to work with you, lad!

Photos taken by Pete Ashton using an APS film on a cheap camera, scanned at 300dpi, shrunk, sharpened and saved as jpegs. So there.
